S.H.Knudson Biography
About Steele Harrison Knudson
Steele Harrison Knudson is an American author, creator, and legal mind whose work bridges science, law, and storytelling. Born in 1972, he has devoted his career to exploring how imagination and intellect can shape a more empathetic and informed world.
As founder of L7, Knudson is best known as the visionary behind Super Elements—a vivid, character-driven universe that personifies the periodic table. Fusing science, history, and human emotion, Super Elements transforms chemistry into a living narrative in which each element becomes a character with purpose, personality, and mythic depth. At its heart stands Chlorine, a heroine who embodies the dual power of science—to heal and to harm. Through art, animation, and storytelling, Knudson’s project makes chemistry accessible and inspiring to a new generation of learners.
Knudson’s creative work isn’t confined to science. His writing extends into law, philosophy, and darkly comic fiction. His novel, The 5th Monkey, has been described as “Vonnegut’s sardonic wisdom meets Thompson’s manic energy—filtered through a legal mind with David Foster Wallace’s linguistic precision.” It’s a satirical legal thriller told through surreal monkey metaphors, childhood rhymes, and existential humor—an unflinching look at justice, morality, and the absurd machinery of modern law.
That same drive to educate through storytelling continues in his latest project, Law and Bananas—a whimsical book series introducing legal concepts to children through the adventures of a “monkey lawyer who teaches you torts.” The idea sprang from Knudson’s passion for civic literacy and his belief that children can grasp profound moral ideas when they’re expressed through play and story.
Outside his literary pursuits, Knudson’s professional background informs his creative vision. A graduate of George Mason University’s Scalia School of Law and the University of Utah’s Urban Planning program, he built a respected career in Washington, D.C., on cases involving the DOJ, SEC, FEC, and FCC. His work spans environmental, zoning, and regulatory law, along with digital innovation and public policy. He also founded Gramela, a technology platform promoting age verification and ethical AI partnerships among ISPs and governments.
Across all of his projects, Steele Knudson’s work shares a single purpose: to merge knowledge and creativity into stories that teach, challenge, and inspire. Whether reimagining the periodic table, painting biblical scenes in Renaissance style, or teaching justice to children through a talking monkey, his art reflects a lifelong commitment to bridging the worlds of science, ethics, and imagination.
